IKEA is constantly looking for talent and, like many large employers, faces the challenge of staying visible and low-threshold in the competition for skilled workers. Applicants today expect processes that feel like their everyday communication: fast, mobile, and without hurdles. yes!devs built the WhatsApp recruiting bot that turns an application into a conversation.
Recruiting has long been a channel question. Reaching people where they already spend their time wins reach that the classic application process loses. For an employer with a high and continuous staffing need, that is exactly what matters, and the messenger is one of the places these people move through every day.
Background
Traditional application forms cost reach. Many interested candidates drop off before completing the process because it is too long, too formal, or too cumbersome on a smartphone. Every one of these drop-offs is a lost contact with a potential employee the employer reached with effort in the first place. In a tight labor market, that loss weighs especially heavily.
IKEA wanted to radically lower the barrier and move the first contact into a channel that is low-threshold and familiar. At the same time, routine work should be taken out of recruiting so the team can focus on the personal conversations instead of recurring coordination. A hard constraint was data protection: the process had to remain uncompromisingly GDPR-compliant, because recruiting involves personal data from the very start.
Our solution
The application as a guided conversation
yes!devs developed a user-friendly chatbot that lets candidates apply directly via WhatsApp. The bot guides them step by step through the process and matches their details with suitable positions. This dialogue-based structure is a deliberate choice: instead of a long form, an exchange unfolds in small, manageable steps that feels natural and keeps the drop-off rate low. About a third of users uploaded their CV directly in the chat, showing how deeply a complete application step can shift into the messenger.

Engagement and preparation
Beyond the application itself, the bot keeps talent warm. A quiz prepares candidates for the interview, personalized job alerts flag suitable new positions, and a talent pool stores profiles for later opportunities. This keeps contact alive even with interested people for whom no matching position is currently open. For an employer with ongoing demand, this pool is a valuable reserve of pre-qualified candidates.
Automation and system integration
Via an API integration, the data lands directly in the HR system, with no manual transfer. Recurring tasks run automatically, so the team can focus on the real conversations. The entire process is built to be GDPR-compliant, so the low entry barrier does not come at the expense of data protection.
Result and benefit
In the first four months, around 3,400 sign-ups came in, nearly 1,000 of which led to suitable profiles. About a third of users uploaded their CV directly in the chat. The numbers show that the messenger not only generates attention but real, usable applications. For comparable employers, the case shows how recruiting reach can be increased while reducing the team's workload, when the first contact moves into a familiar channel and data processing is cleanly regulated from the start.
